学院设置历经发展，部分学院如医学科学学院成立于2007年，而伦敦大学最初仅设有伦敦大学学院和伦敦国王学院两所学院。- UCL是伦敦市第一所公立研究型大学，也是全球顶尖学府，但需注意其与伦敦帝国学院（University of London）的区分。
